Holy shit balls, it’s finally here. The 2008 Rock City Festival has finally arrived, and we have to admit, we’re having trouble holding in our excitement. Seriously, have you seen the lineup? Saying that this shit is going to be bananas is the understatement of the year. It’s going to be super-bananas. Super-duper bananas. So many delicious rock bananas.

Before we re-introduce to you our illustrious lineup, we are feeling the need to fill you all in on a few little tidbits that should make your weekend more enjoyable; and it’s coming to you in easy-to-read bullet-point form, so’s you don’t waste any more of your time sitting in front of the computer, and instead get off your ass and go out to see the shows. So here goes:

• Cheap Beer: We are hosting an Opening Night Happy Hour, with dollar drafts of Miller High Life in the Majestic Theatre, Thursday, June 12, from 8-9 pm, or while supplies last. You read this correctly.  No need to over analyze it. Get there early, as it’ll probably run out before 9!

• Wristbands: Please be warned that just because you have a wristband, whether it be for all three days, or just one night of the festival, it does not mean you will be admitted back into the venue if it is at capacity. We would love for all of you to see every band at Rock City; in fact, we encourage it. But if you leave, come back, and notice that any of the three rooms is at capacity, you’ll have to wait it out. This is how they do it at CMJ, at SXSW, and at lots of other “in-door” festivals across the country, and that’s how we are doing it here. Yes, even if you bought your wristband. So, choose wisely.

• The CAID BBQ: We already went over this, but the Saturday BBQ at the CAID is still happening (and no, your car will not be towed). Besides having awesome bands, we’ll have food and beer available for purchase (it’ll be cheap), as well as the ladies from Handmade Detroit and Loop on hand, offering crafts, the “shredder rock bin,” and instant art instillation. What’s all that mean, you say? Read more about it here.

• Oh yeah, and VHS or Beta canceled. Something about them being giant pussies, or something (just kidding guys…maybe next year, Okay?).

Like we said before, the Internet has transformed how we listen to music — we’ve documented that over our first year of publishing. But it’s also changed how people in other cities, states, and countries listen to ours. Our festival, like Detour itself, is part of that transfer of sound and ideas, and we want you to participate, too. If the Internet has made music closer, Rock City is about to make it a lot louder.

See you at the shows,
The Detour Crew
