The Word Play, “The Critic Darling” (Suburban Sprawl Music/Quack! Media, 2008)
The Word Play’s “The Critic Darling” — from their upcoming full-length, out on Suburban Sprawl later in the year — reminds us of the golden era of indie rock. When it was Okay to draw out the vowels on the vocals; when it was cool to play little lead guitar lines that were just the right amount of sloppy; before Modest Mouse had 25 dudes in the band. The Word Play prove that, yeah, anybody can do it, but it’s another thing to do it well. And they do.
The Word Play play Rock City, Saturday, June 14 at 2:20 pm at the CAID BBQ.
