Hercules and Love Affair, “Blind” (Mute/DFA, 2008)
With Antony on vocals, simmering over that electro/synth-pop pulse, Hercules and Love Affair are so onto to something. Is stuff like “Blind” and the rest of the project’s self-titled debut on DFA/Mute going to sustain our instantaneous love affair with contemporary electronic music? Because while the disco cues and DFA touches aren’t dissimilar from recent trends, with Antony’s unstoppable vocals out front and the intent to produce with vocals, hooks, and SONGS in mind, Hercules and Love Affiar feels more fully-formed than your typical soundtrack to an EverybodyIsFamous.com photo shoot. — Johnny Loftus
