At the core of Los Angeles, Calif. indie pop combo Bodies of Water is David Metcalf, Meredith Metcalf, Jessica Conklin, and Kyle Gladdin. These are the members who fit in a tiny Toyota RV, but the band’s numbers swell when they add a horn section or other instruments. Ears Will Pop & Eyes Will Blink, the band’s debut, is a celebration of outsized pop — they sound like a chorus, or a choir, or at least an indie rock band who can really fucking sing. Secretly Canadian recently picked the record up for distribution. Here, David Metcalf gives us a look into the Bodies of Water universe. — Thomas Rooker White

My favorite show of our last tour was at a place called the Silent Barn in Brooklyn. We were allowed to sleep there after we played, which really endears them to me.

CMJ or SXSW?
None of us have ever been to CMJ, only to SXSW once. We enjoyed it. My answer is SXSW.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith, MASH (1970), The General (Buster Keaton, 1927), 21 Grams, Inland Empire. (I’m excited to see this last one; some people have told me it’s horrible and some people have said it’s brilliant. it may get bumped up to the top of the queue.)

Weirdest MySpace comment or message…
A lot of people have posted comments about some sort of Macy’s gift card giveaway. I haven’t yet availed myself of this opportunity, but it is exciting that so many people are pulling together to tell their friends about it. its a real grassroots campaign to get the word on these gift cards out.
