Adem, “Hotel Lounge (Be the Death of Me)” (Domino, 2008)
Adem Ilham of Fridge fame is also a solo artist under his first name, and here he is doing a version of deUS’s “Hotel Lounge (Be the Death of Me).” (Takes, his new record, is an album of covers.) But hey, is it still a music video if the artist is essentially performing the song live? Sure, there’s a deliberate amount of camera work here. Adem isn’t singing this into his Web cam, sitting sad on his sadder-looking white couch. But this isn’t Hype Williams, either, and he’s definitely not lip-synching. It kind of nice to have the filter of presentation removed, though. — Johnny Loftus
