“This was answered by pretty much everyone, so you don’t have to attribute any name to it,” came the note with Suburban Sprawl Music’s Meet & Greet answers. Makes sense; the metro Detroit label has functioned as an artists’ collective since its launch in 1999, and has been putting out cool pop from the likes of Javelins, Child Bite, and Those Transatlantics ever since. Suburban Sprawl also recently joined forces with another Michigan-based media empire, Ann Arbor’s Quack! Expect more sweetness from the Sprawl in the future. In the meantime, learn about the label’s experiences with rock shows in Lansing and their desire to respectively snuggle certain celebrities. — Thomas Rooker White
Worst fanboy/fangirl experience…
We really haven’t had any bad ones yet. We’ve had a few “super fan” types, but generally we get to know them and they inevitably become less impressed by us.
Favorite music venue/city…
We had a great run in Lansing of all places a couple years back. Right now, we’d say Ann Arbor is probably the most receptive/fun place to play. The Elbow Room (in nearby Ypsilanti) is easily the best bar to get wrecked at, but the Pike Room in Pontiac has the best sound, is super nice, and super fancy, respectively.
Vegetarian, vegan or carnivore…
We have a few vegetarians. I don’t think we have any vegans around. That said, we all eat marshmallows despite the gelatin, because we love ’smores.
Actor/actress you most want to hump…
We’re a wholesome label. We’d most like to “respectfully snuggle” Scarlett Johansson and Justin Timberlake, probably at the same time.
Favorite record of all time…
The Beatles, Revolver; The Misfits, Legacy of Brutality; Elliott Smith, Either/Or; Prince, Sign o’ the Times
Favorite movie of all time…
Rushmore, The Godfather
Favorite TV show of all time…
Most of TGIF, or “Who’s the Boss?”
Beverages you request on your rider…
Danger Beer, Super Max Activity Drink, Extreme Health Water Sprinkles
First car…
1983 Chevy Monte Carlo, with a tape player.
Guiltiest Pleasure - thing you watch, read, listen to - that no one knows about…
Probably not so much watching, but discussing whether “I love New York” or “Shot at Love” is more terrible.
