Listen: “Knowledge In Hand”

Steve Albini got the Forms’ backs recently for being one of the best bands he’s recorded that have so far gone under-noticed. The cantankerous recorder of independent music famously did this on a poker forum, of all places; the praise is valid, however, wherever it lies inside the Internet. The Brooklyn quartet are plotting a follow-up to Icarus, their well-received debut, and if it sounds as sleekly urgent (think the National) and tempered with mainstream-bating modern rockness as their existing jams, well, then we’re on that Forms support bus with ol’ Steve. Because maybe it’s just us, but the subtle changes in the rhythms behind these song’s pretty surface make us imagine what it would be like if Seam and Codeine were platinum sellers instead of The Fray and Snow Patrol. Worst fanboy/fangirl experience…

The bad experiences tend to happen with people who don’t like us rather than fans. one particularly memorable one: we played a show in San Francisco that was running late, and a guy who couldn’t have been more than five feet tall started throwing ice at us, followed by a beer glass that whizzed by our drummer’s head and shattered into a thousand pieces. We later found out that this guy lived upstairs and I guess was being kept up by the music. He apparently told the owner that next week, he was going to come back and throw knives at the band.

Favorite music venue/city…

It’s not a music venue per se, but the south street seaport in NYC makes for an awesome show.

Vegetarian, vegan or carnivore…

Jollyranchersvore.

Actor/actress you most want to hump…

Tie between Barney and grimace. I’m into big purple blobs.

Favorite record of all time…

Shudder to Think, Pony Express Record.

Favorite movie of all time…

Heathers or Network.

Favorite TV show of all time…

“Lost.”

Beverages you request on your rider…

what’s a rider?

First car…

The A train.

Guiltiest Pleasure - thing you watch, read, listen to - that no one knows about…

The most withering looks seem to come from liking Destiny’s Child. I just think it was kind of innovative how they talked about screen names and pagers in their music, whereas most songs talk about vague things like feelings and love.
