Band of Horses, “No One’s Gonna Love You” (Sub Pop, 2008)

The guitar line lingers like an endless fog, and the vocal is Band of Horses‘ typical sweetness and plaint, its indie sensibilities tempered with the set jaw and idealism of Neil Young. “No one’s gonna love you…” goes the title lyric, and then the other shoe drops. “…More than I do.” Oh, that’s just the way they give you the zinger, isn’t it? Band of Horses weren’t going to write a song that actually removed good vibes from the world. — Thomas Rooker White
