Detroit,
Just like the Honorable Kwame Malik Kilpatrick (praised be His name), the greatest mayor in the history of mayors, I will never quit you. Unless I get a job offer in someplace nice, like Portland or Montreal. Then I’ll be out of here faster than a Cass Corridor hooker plies her trade.
In the meantime, as Detour transitions out of the daily media game, I will be moving my shtick to a new site called Dyspathy (it means antipathy). The new site will launch for reals (hopefully) on Monday May 11. It can be found at http://www.dyspathy.com. I will not abide a return to Blogger. By God, sir, I will not abide it.
While you are waiting for the new site like it’s an Apple product launch, feel free to follow me on the twit machine (http://www.twitter.com/woodwardsfriend) for the most up-to-date news about the cesarean birth of Dyspathy. It’s kind of happening on the fly and it might be a little messy.
Thank you to everyone who followed me from Detroitist to Detour and those who started reading my mangled prose here. I hope you’ll all hang with me during the transition to Dyspathy. Detour has been a blast. It was like the time Johnny Fever and Venus Flytrap went out for a beer with Les Nessmen.
Later cockpunchers,
Woodwards Friend

I am so very excited about this news. Pitchers on me!
Keeping up with this shit is hard work.
Catchers on me!
“…about the cesarean birth of Dyspathy” Do you feel like you’re being untimely ripped from Detour-mag’s womb?
Cesarean in the sense that it’s happening on the fly and done in order to save this baby. There’s a fleeting nature to these kind of grassroots operations. These things happen.
I’m thrilled for Anthony and his new job. It’s good for him and good for the Majestic. (Anthony, I’m sure I won’t be the only one suggesting this but…Lebowski Fest)
The great thrill of Detour was that my work was a complimentary piece of something larger. A wise man, who (apparently) likes catchers, once said that blogging is totally narcissistic and that’s very true. I mean, self publishing one’s thoughts and expecting people to give a shit? While you’re at it, why don’t you buy a pack of gum and show me how to chew it?
With Detour, there was an established overall editorial direction (say what you will about the tenants of Detour’s editorial policy but at least it was an ethos) and the writing is ultimately scrutinized by a boss of sorts. The whole thing seemed like less an exercise in narcissism. At least that’s what I told myself while standing naked in front of a mirror and stroking my erect nipples.
At any rate, I’ll miss this but I hope Dyspathy (it means antipathy) will be interesting enough to keep you reading.
As I said before, this has been a blast.

Hey. I’m sorry. I think it’s my fault. See, I found Detroitist (and tried to make everybody I know read it) right before the move over here. I kept up with you here (even though I am all old and have kids and stuff and while I would have been all over Detour many many years ago, you know, old, I’m hardly their target) and now this. Clearly something about my karma is messing with yours. Can I still read you or would you rather I back off for a bit so you could keep a site for more than a month or two?
Supergay pitcher & catcher jokes make Mt Clemens smile.
I’ll just buy the shots, how’s that? You just have to come to Hamtramck to drink them.
Best of luck on the move. I’ll be following.
damn you and your restless ass. come back soon.
Shit! Now I have to change my favorites AGAIN! Serously, I can’t wait for your new site and I am so happy your are keeping on, WF! Please tell me you will be continuing your Douchebag of the Week shtick, too.
Hey kids,
Check out http://www.dyspathy.com to get a preview of the new site’s look and feel. Let me know what you think at thedetroitist@gmail.com. It’s a work in progress so things like the linklist/blogroll are incomplete. And I need to import the “Smart” list from Detroitist. But this should give you an idea as to what one can expect starting next Monday.
