Here at Detour, we like to think of ourselves as pretty in-the-know when it comes to new bands. But we can honestly say that we’ve never heard of any of the groups playing around town tonight. However, should that stop you from going out and checking out some new music tonight? Thanks to the Internet, absolutely not! After a little Myspace surfing, our pick for the night is the Handgrenades, along with Nightwatcher, Algernon and Argington at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. The HG’s have a kind of Walkmen, French Kicks, early Coldplay, Brit-pop, NYC-hipster-rock…ah, fuck it. They sound like a lot of really awesome bands combined, and their live cover of the Rolling Stones’ “The Last Time” on their Myspace is pretty kick ass. So yeah, go see ‘em, and tell us how it is…we have to stay home and watch “American Idol.”
