Red Shirt Brigade, “Sporto” (Suburban Sprawl Music/Arborvitae Records, 2001)

It was the turn of the century, and everyone was younger than they are now. Indie rock was still indie rock, at least mostly; the Internet bubble had burst, blogs were in their infancy, and no one knew what the fuck a MySpace page was. Friendster hadn’t even been invented yet. This clip dates back to the cherished times we speak of; and if that fresh-faced kid tearing it up behind the drum kit is any indication, all these dudes have lived some time since this was shot. Red Shirt Brigade members went on to appear in such notable outfits as Thunderbirds Are Now!, Zoos of Berlin, and Friendly Foes, all of whom happen to be appearing at our very own Rock City Festival. No word on whether any of them will be bringing the barn this was filmed in with them. — Johnny Loftus
