A few months ago there was a great post on Scissorkick, the music and MP3 blog run by Brooklynite Steve Marchese. “You can find virtually any new album online because irresponsible bloggers don’t check The Hype Machine before they post,” Marchese wrote, “or are obsessed with being the first to post a certain track. That’s not what SK is about. I love the new Radiohead as much as the next guy, but isn’t the purpose of blogging to introduce you to stuff that’s not already all over the Internet?” He’s right, of course; the Internet gets stale when everyone’s blabbing about the same six bands. But Scissorkick is also doing something about it: each time we visit, we learn about or listen to something totally new to us. Here’s more on Steve and Scissor. — Thomas Rooker White

Where are you based in real life?

Brooklyn, New York. Bay Ridge actually, home of Saturday Night Fever. Probably the only dude in the area interested in music other than Andrea Bocelli, Jah Rule and Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan.

How did the site get its start? Its name?
Interesting story, actually. Scissorkick was lifted from a creative meeting for a former dotcom I worked at in the late 90s with the even more ludicrous name of Lavaspoon. I think anyone familiar with the Web content industry (pre-bubble burst), can recognize a site named during that time. Scissorkick has nothing to do with the content I post, so it remains a good homage to other stupidly named dotcoms of the late 90s. Plus, I play soccer, which has nothing to do with music, but everything to do with a sweet 30-yard scissorkick placed perfectly in the upper corner of the net.

Does the nature of what you do make you hate the phone/human contact?
The nature of what I do makes me hate shitty, uncreative trends and the shitty, uncreative bands that follow those trends. But I love phones. And I love humans. I like the recent trend of anthropomorphic phones. Phones with bones, if you know what I’m saying.

List your must-checks every morning (read: what’s in your RSS feed)…
Design Observer, AICN, Design Charts, NYTimes.com, Salon.com, Gawker, Grub Street, ESPN.com, Pitchfork

Favorite blog/website besides your own…
So many to choose from, but I tend to check out The Hype Machine, Music (For Robots), Devil in the Details, Captain’s Crate, The Pop View, Blentwell, The New Balearic and a bunch of others that care about music, not bullshit gossip.

Favorite record of all time…
Impossible to answer. And even more reprehensible that you would ask such a blasphemous question. On second thought, it’s probably a tie between Board’s of Canada’s Music Has the Right to Children and about 20 other records that are as perfect as DJ Shadow’s Entroducing. Those two come immediately to mind.

Favorite movie of all time…
Again, how can you ask a dude who is geeky enough to do an MP3 blog (which is almost as fucking geeky as doing an interview with an MP3 blogger) to answer this question. Okay, again, I will go with the first movie that pops into my head, and that movie is…the Sidney Lumet classic Network.

Favorite TV show of all time…
Easy. “American Gladiators.” Nitro haunts my dreams.

Actor/actress/blogger you’d most like to hump…
The only answer that counts: my wife. Who is neither an actress, nor a blogger. And that’s why I married her.

Your guiltiest pleasure. The thing no one would believe you watch, read, or listen to…

No one believes anything I say anyway, because I’m an infamous liar. So if I said something like “Shot at Love with Tila Tequila,” would anyone actually believe it’s the truth?
