Hey, someone finally calls bullshit on Jack White. Well, not someone, necessarily…watch this new clip for the Stripes’ “Conquest” and you’ll find out, but the role reversal Jack wails about in the song is parading around in a ring here, and it’s up to El Mariachi de las Rayas del Blanco to tame it. He gets knocked down in the process, and may or may not fall in love with some beef. It’s the usual for a Mariachi, even one with a squeal that would scare a bull’s mother: the hunted becomes the huntress, the hunter becomes the prey. Ole!
But it’s all in a day’s work for Jack and Meg, who star in some really cool, really high concept videos when they aren’t dreaming up zany new marketing ideas or steadily wowing fans of handmade spangled stage clothing. (Red and black fabric only, if you please.) Who knew there would be a cameo by a gore at the end of this one? That was a surprise. — Johnny Loftus
