We here at the Detour Bivouac have been following this story for a while now, and it’s time to start spreading the word. If this burns your ass, send an email, write a letter. The issue? NYC is trying to impose impossible demands and rules on all independent filmmakers who want to shoot their film or photographs in the city. Now, please correct us if we are wrong on this: NYC is the most celebrated film making city in the U.S. Cassavetes, Woody Allen, the Coen Brothers, Spike Lee… etc. They all got their start shooting in NY and using that wonderful city and its people as the subjects and backdrops to many of their films. This is not to say that they never had to have a permit to shoot, but to demand all indie filmmakers to have a 1 million dollar insurance policy for every permit they request, and to even demand that they have a permit to shoot anything is a crushing blow to that cities amazing film community and its history. Hit the streets with your Super 8 and a tripod, let’s see what they do. Read the entire story here:
